Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty and the new philosophy of adult animation - Academic Essay

“These shows work with the stylistic conventions of the genre they belong to, giving their own spin to the tropes and the overarching narrative. They abide by the canonical structure of this type of animated series, with a duration per episode that never exceeds 25 minutes, the same, familiar environments in each installment and an unchanging cast of characters dealing with a new problem every time. However, both shows take advantage of these familiar settings to deconstruct regular TV programming, to tackle subjects never touched before, at least not this way. ”

Better Call Saul: A prequel done right - Academic Essay

“Unoriginal art, in critical parlance, is an oxymoron. for every Frasier that succeeds in changing the formula, there is a Joey that fails spectacularly. These are all examples of what the industry is after: popular, recognizable worlds that audiences are eager to return to. Better Call Saul is no exception, of course, but while many of these new iterations fail because too tied to their predecessors, it is in branching off and pursuing something different that this show succeeded in finding its own identity.”

Screenwriting and the one story that makes them all – a dive into the language of creative writing for Film.

“Just like language, artistic composition has grammar, and that grammar is not there to limit creativity, but to enhance it. It’s nothing more than an intricate articulation of the workings of the human mind. Writers are drawn to this template; the laws of physics, logic and expression inform the way everyone approaches the story they want to tell. It’s subconscious, it’s ingrained in our DNA, and we cannot escape it. So, let’s see what we can do to decipher it. Understanding how stories work is the first step to confidently tell our own.”
